For those of you who may not know the reasoning behind the Diaz Cup. Philip Diaz passed away on the 12th March 2012. He had loved football and kicking a ball around was one of the things they had done together for fun. Therefore, his friends thought of organising a football tournament – a chance for Bayside to compete, have fun and maybe kick some teachers. It has become much more than just an annual football tournament. it has become a chance to remember courage – like fighting for a future you know you will not see - and being resilient in the face of adversity. Philip had said, “It’s not about the years you don’t have, but about finding the courage to achieve greatness in the ones you do.” This year will mark the Diaz Cup's 10th anniversary. It has been amazing to see some of those friends, who put this tournament together return to Bayside as teachers and continue to organise this special tournament ten years on.

Thank you for keeping Philip's memory alive. He loved Bayside, his teachers, his friends. The day he was pronounced terminal he cried, not because he had lost the fight for his life but because he would never return to his beloved school.
