Objective
The Dance & Drama Department aims to provide young learners with opportunities to engage and develop 21st Century skills through the medium of theatre and performance.
The Dance and Drama Department aims to foster a culture of:
● Inclusivity - Developing programmes and activities of learning that are challenging and achievable for every young person: prejudice and stereotyping is challenged.
● Coherence - Young people experiencing the roles of creator, performer, leader and critic through the activities of performing, creating and watching in a range of contexts and styles/genres. They will be able to make connections with other opportunities, art forms, subjects and contexts.
● Purpose - Creative responses, autonomy and decision-making are encouraged. There are clear learning outcomes, young people take responsibility and make informed choices.
● Progress - young people progress in and through performance arts. They will be encouraged to achieve their potential, broaden their horizons and raise aspirations.
Throughout the Key Stages we want to develop skills in physical interaction, team work, problem solving, observation and evaluation, verbal and non-verbal communication of ideas and emotions, and in making connections, design in space, musicality and creativity. Performance can improve self-esteem and confidence; it can widen aspiration and help tackle obesity and other health issues.
