Last week our A-Level students and a team of dedicated teachers worked hard to pack over 400 hampers for Father Charlie to give out with his volunteers to those families who need them. This involved packing over 1600 bags. This has become part of Bayside's traditions. Not only do our students give back to our community but they see a very different side to Christmas. It highlights the fact that not everyone is privileged and able to afford everything they need. Christmas can be a very difficult time for many people and our school community is very mindful of this.

Every year our GCSE COPE students collect toiletries and prepare these Christmas gift boxes for Nazareth House. It is lovely for our students to be able to give back to our community.

For those of you who may not know the reasoning behind the Diaz Cup. Philip Diaz passed away on the 12th March 2012. He had loved football and kicking a ball around was one of the things they had done together for fun. Therefore, his friends thought of organising a football tournament – a chance for Bayside to compete, have fun and maybe kick some teachers. It has become much more than just an annual football tournament. it has become a chance to remember courage – like fighting for a future you know you will not see - and being resilient in the face of adversity. Philip had said, “It’s not about the years you don’t have, but about finding the courage to achieve greatness in the ones you do.” This year will mark the Diaz Cup's 10th anniversary. It has been amazing to see some of those friends, who put this tournament together return to Bayside as teachers and continue to organise this special tournament ten years on. We are extremely proud of our students David Llamas and Alex Moreno, both in year 13, for their success in the Sovereign Art Foundation Students' Prizes. David won the judge's award for his painting 'Headache' and Alex won the Public Award prize for his piece 'Strangled by Numbers'. It is wonderful to have such talented students in our school. This year the Crib competition was particularly difficult to judge because all the entries were of such a high standard and such good quality.
They have been a most welcome addition to the podium level and added to the festive cheer. Well done all! Once again staff teams entered this Christmas baking fun to raise money for GBS Open Day. Great fun and all for a good cause! On Thursday 1st December the Bayside Geography Department held a quiz night for all A Level students. Peers and teachers from Westside school were invited to participate and the evening proved to be a fun night of revision among other questions. A range of prizes from local stores were donated to the lucky winners and a total of £769.22 + €2 was raised in aid of GBC Open Day.
Year 10 students received their CREST Bronze certificates. The students investigated tropisms in plants, and how these affect the growth of roots and shoots plants.
Well done to all of them! |
